Say to Dubai to the rain

Thanks for joining us!

I’m Sarah, I have 2 brothers with a rare genetic condition called ATRX. My little brother Sam is 27, he’s very small and loves feeling warm so I’m on a mission to take Sam to Dubai so he can put his feet in the warm sand and sea!

This blog will catalogue the hurdles, the planning and (hopefully) the achievements!

So bear with me, I’m learning as I go and creating the blog mainly on my phone.

One of my best friends Rebecca has lived in Dubai for over 10 years. I’ve been to visit her many times and pretty early on I decided this was somewhere I needed to bring Sam.

Sam weighs less than the Emirates luggage allowance, he’s about 23kg and you can take 30 kg on a standard flight to Dubai. Each time I’ve gone I’ve joked I should sneak Sam in my suitcase and therein started the dream to take him for real.

You can follow our story here, all the extra planning and organising involved in taking someone with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) out of the country and on a plane for the first time. I’m confident it will be worth it and hope Dubai is just the beginning and that when we return I’ll be thinking “where next?…”
